Vacuumschmelze has introduced an updated version of its core sample kit, a selection of standard nanocrystalline, Vitroperm toroidal tape-wound cores for EMC applications. The plastic case contains a selection of 55 cores in various types and sizes up to 45mm. The core sample kit is suitable for filter development in switched-mode power supplies, uninterrupted power supplies, welding systems, frequency converters, and solar inverters. With this core range, common mode chokes with operating currents up to approximately 80A can be designed, says the company.
Containing cores with graduated permeability µ ranges from 18,000 to over 100,000, the kit can be used in laboratory experimentation and EMC developments. The common mode chokes are claimed to demonstrate good broadband attenuation properties even at operating temperatures of up to 150°C. The combination of permeability of over µ 100,000 and saturation flux density of 1.2T makes possible to design the compact common mode chokes with few turns and good high-frequency characteristics, claims the company. Due to its high inductance, vacuum chokes have a large copper cross-section, which is said to reduce copper losses.
