STMicroelectronics has added the L3G3200D, a small, three-axis digital-output gyroscope to its motion-sensing portfolio for next-generation mobile phones and tablets. According to the company, the 3x3.5x1mm gyroscope is immune to mechanical stress, along with high temperature stability to deliver motion measurement along all three orthogonal axes. The gyroscope includes power-down and sleep modes, and an embedded first-in, first-out memory block for smart power management. It can operate with supply voltages of 2.4 to 3.6V with selectable ranges of ±250, ±500, and ±2000dps. The gyroscope provides a 16bit data output on the interrupt and data-ready lines. It features low- and high-pass filters with user-selectable bandwidth, temperature sensor with an 8bit data output, and operates between -40 and +85°C.
