STMicroelectronics has expanded its sensor portfolio with a low-power digital MEMS microphone. Housed inside a 3x4x1mm package, the MP34DT01 top-port microphone delivers a good audio experience in mobile phones, tablets and other smart consumer devices.
The microphone has a top-port sound-inlet position, an SNR of 63dB and flat frequency response in the full audio band of 20 to 20,000Hz. The microphone is claimed to match the needs of clever speech-recognition systems for voice-controlled software and electronic-assistant applications. The microphone's SNR makes it also suitable for applications such as phonometers that require high dynamic range. The microphone uses acoustic sensor technology jointly developed with OMRON that is said to be less susceptible to mechanical vibration, temperature variations and electromagnetic interference, while providing high-fidelity reproduction of audio signals at low power consumption, claims the company.
