Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the CHPHT high-temperature, surface-mount, wraparound thick film chip resistor for down-hole drilling applications. The resistor operates between -55 and +230°C and features a storage temperature range of -55 to +245°C. Optimised for multi-chip modules in down-hole drilling instrumentation, the high-temperature capabilities of the resistor allow for the extraction of petroleum at deeper depths, claims the company. Offered in 0603, 0805, 1206, and 2010 case sizes, the resistor ensure a resistance range from 0.1Ω to 100MΩ; tolerances of 1%, 2%, and 5%; and power dissipation of 12.5 to 100mW at +230°C. The resistor is available with gold terminations for compatibility with high melting point processes of less than 1μm thick for temperatures up to +245°C and with tin and silver terminations for operating temperatures up to +200°C. The resistor is compliant to RoHS Directive 2002, 95, EC, and is halogen-free according to the IEC 61249-2-21 definition.
