Compact power supply modules from Rohm integrate an inductor, capacitors and other components needed for a power supply. The company claims that the BZ6A is the smallest power supply for high-density mounting use in a single package. It measures 2.3x2.9x1mm. As mobile devices, including smartphones, increase the number of components and power sources within the circuit, the trend has been towards miniaturisation. The BZ6A integrates a BU9000X series 6MHz high-speed switching power supply LSI and has a wide input voltage range, from 2.3 to 5.5V, making them suitable portable devices using a 5V USB, as well as an output voltage range between 1 and 3.3V, for compatibility. Operation is 6MHz with over 85% efficiency. Another feature is the automatic PWM / PFM mode switching and soft-start circuit and multiple protection circuits.
