Freescale Semiconductor has announced the S12 MagniV 16bit S12ZVM family of mixed-signal microcontrollers. The microcontrollers combine four elements of a system such as microcontroller, MOSFET gate drive unit, voltage regulator and LIN physical layer, into a single-chip. There are different versions available, supporting CAN and LIN communication protocols. There is also a choice of memory and package sizes available. The microcontrollers are suitable for a HVAC blowers, wipers, fuel pumps and water pumps, according to the company. The microcontrollers include an enhanced S12Z core running at 100MHz. They are suitable for replacing mechanical or hydraulic systems with BLDC motors or for replacing standard DC motors with BLDC motors. The microcontrollers are available in 64 and 48pin, low profile, quad flat packages.
