The SmartShield product line offers multi-cavity, board-level EMI (electromagnetic interference) shielding. Made from recyclable materials, the product is RoHS- and WEEE-compliant and can be used in a myriad of applications. The shield consists of stainless steel, copper or nickel silver, which can be deep-drawn to various depths into a single- or multiple-labyrinth configuration. The technology can be stamped and formed to virtually any design. Manufacturing the shield from a stainless-steel or nickel-silver metal ensures superior short- and long-term shielding and attenuation properties. The inside can be selectively insulated to customer drawings. The EMI shield is fastened to a PCB via a patented attachment mechanism using individual resistors, which are picked and placed onto the board using the standard SMT process. The slugs or 0Ohm (zero) resistors supplied on a standard tape and reel format fit directly onto any SMT machine. The small slug sizes result in narrower ground traces that assist small and intricate product design, and can reduce FR4 real estate in multi-cavity solutions. The shield installs after the SMT reflow process, allowing for easy component inspection or repair, and is easily removed by hand, up to 20 times.
