Multiplex announced a family of TEML (tunable electro-absorptive modulator laser) modules and transmitters employing its monolithic tunable laser with an integrated electro-absorption modulator in a single chip. This family consists of 2.5Gbit/s, DWDM devices for transmission over 640km, with a 4- to 16-channel tuning range (100GHz channel spacing) or a 4- to 32-channel tuning range (50GHz channel spacing with wavelength locker). The lasers are available in standard 14-pin butterfly packages. Two 10Gbit/s DWDM units designed for the 40 and 80km range, tune over the same tuning band as above and are available in both standard GPO packages and standard 14-pin butterfly packages. All modules share the same footprint as the standard Multiplex single-channel modules. The company also released a 10Gbit/s DWDM integrated tunable laser assembly for the 40 and 80km ranges with an on-board driver IC and microcontroller. These transmitters are capable of accepting differential 10Gbit/s data inputs, automatically provide optimum bias and modulation conditions for the EML, and can be controlled remotely through an I2C interface. The tunable transmitter measures 30.5x62.0mm.
