Measuring 30.5x73x10.5mm, the NTL2000 is a widely tunable high-performance continuous-wave laser for DWDM optical-networking systems. The unit is capable of 40nm tuning over the C or L bands with a channel spacing of 50GHz on the ITU grid, with a high uniform power output of 10 or 20mW. It has a tuning speed of 20ms, a low power dissipation, and a -3 to +0.5dB adjustable optical power output. There is also a version that tunes across the combined spectrum of the C+L bands in a single ultra-widely tunable laser covering the 80nm tuning range. The laser also supports 100GHz channel spacing with an internal wavelength locker. It comes in a 14-pin hermetically sealed butterfly package with advanced SBS (stimulated-Brillouin-scattering) suppression and trace-tone features. The laser and all control electronics are combined in a small ITLA (integrated tunable laser assembly) conforming to the OIF ITLA MSA version 1.1 with polarisation-maintaining output fiber for coupling to an external modulator. Applications include DWDM transmission systems such as metro or long haul, tunable DWDM transponders, reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers and access applications. The laser supports 2.5, 10 and 40Gbit/s data rates.
