The SOA-XN-OEC-1550 SOA (semiconductor optical amplifier) offers highly optimised non-linear operating characteristics that make it suitable for all-optical networks operating at up to 100Gbit/s. The device has a gain-recovery time of 10ps and can be fabricated in arrays and push-fitted into hybrid components. Other features include large-spot very low-reflectivity interfaces and the support of four-wave mixing, cross-gain modulation or cross-phase-modulation effects to implement all-optical wavelength conversions. The phase-change characteristics of the non-linear SOA and its 20dB gain may also be employed to regenerate optical signals.
