UltraCell, a leading California-based designer and manufacturer of lightweight and compact reformed methanol fuel-cell solutions that are aimed at mobile power applications, has announced that its XX25 cell now meets the power-source specifications that have been set by Getac for its V100 series of rugged laptop products. The fuel cell manages to deliver up to 25W of continuous maximum power and weighs just 1.24kg (roughly a third of the weight which would nomally be expected for a standard battery alternative). The solution is thus suitable as a power source for this sort of industrial PCs. The fuel cell provides an extended runtime from - 12 up to 18 hours - and features compact dimensions of 14x23x4.3mm. By plugging straight into the same port as the V100's normal power adapter, it eliminates the need for an AC adapter.
