Can you describe briefly your main line of business?
Silicon Storage Technology, (SST) is a global provider of semiconductor platforms for a wide range of applications in digital consumer, networking, wireless communications and Internet computing markets. Our products include serial and parallel NOR flash memory, NAND controller-based modules, smart card ICs and modules, flash microcontrollers and radio frequency ICs and modules.
What is your best selling product and where do you ship it most?
We are the world's dominant supplier of low-density NOR flash memory. As a global company our products address a wide range of applications worldwide. Currently we ship the largest percentage of our products to China, where end products are manufactured for worldwide consumption.
In addition, our SuperFlash technology is one of the most prevalent embedded flash technologies in the world. To date, our licensees have shipped nearly 6 billion products incorporating embedded SuperFlash technology.
What's your roadmap from here?
One of our key strengths as a company is our ability to understand evolving market needs. More than 2000 customers worldwide rely on our products. Through close relationships with our customers, we are able to anticipate where the electronics market is heading and then design products that will address the future needs of the market. For example, over the past three years we have made strategic investments in new technology areas that will provide the foundation for our future growth. With these technologies we have developed exciting new products such as our MelodyWing wireless audio solution; All-in-OneMemory, which provides a completely managed memory subsystem that blends key benefits of NOR, NAND and RAM in a unified architecture; and our NANDrive high performance, fully integrated embedded flash solid state drive. Our roadmap strategy is to leverage our systems-level expertise with our product design capabilities to provide our customers with value-added semiconductor platform solutions.
How do you differentiate from your competitors?
We believe we have the optimum mix of core competencies that are necessary to develop essential technologies for next-generation digital platforms. These core competencies include low-power design expertise; reliable solid state storage; small, thin packaging; superior RF/wireless technology and system-level know how. The success of our SuperFlash technology has allowed us to build a large worldwide customer base and high-volume operational strength (we ship more than 2 million units per calendar day), giving us a solid foundation from which to expand our product portfolio.
Any strategic move planned for the future?
Our strategy is to continue working closely with our customers to design and deliver semiconductor platforms that address system-level concerns. Our new All-in-OneMemory, NANDrive and MelodyWing products, as well as our innovative FlashMate technology are gaining solid traction in the market. We will continue to introduce new, value-added products throughout the course of 2008.
What would make your life easier in this business?
As long as people continue to want products that are more portable, consume less energy, have more reliable storage of digital media and are easier to use and operate, then SST's future looks bright.
