National Semiconductor has introduced a family of micropower precision amplifiers that provides great offset voltage drift over temperature (TCVOS) as low as +/- 0.4 microvolts per degree Celsius (uV/C). These 16 uW per channel operational amplifiers (op amps) feature low TCVOS, along with low offset voltage, quiescent current and bias current to enable a high level of system accuracy, extended battery life and long-term stability in portable systems and battery-powered sensor interface products.
The LMP2231 single, LMP2232 dual and LMP2234 quad micropower op amps feature CMOS inputs, 1.6V to 5.5V operation, 10 uA of supply current per channel, low offset voltage of 150 uV and a wide temperature range of -40 degrees C to 125 degrees C. All three op amps have low power consumption of less than 16 uW per channel, while providing 130 kHz of usable bandwidth, which places them among National's PowerWise family of energy-efficient products.
To amplify the sensor's signal accurately, National offers both the LMP223x devices and ADC121S021, a 12-bit, one-channel analogue-to-digital converter. The new LMP precision op amps are built on National's proprietary VIP50 BiCMOS process technology. The VIP50 process allows National to design higher-performance precision op amps.
The LMP2231 single micropower, precision amplifier provides 1.6V to 5.5V operating supply voltage range and quiescent power consumption of 16 uW. The device features a maximum offset of 150 uV, along with a maximum offset voltage drift of 0.4 uV/C and low bias current of +/- 20 femtoamperes (fA). Its rail-to-rail output swings 15 mV from the supply voltage to increase system dynamic range. The LMP2231's common-mode input voltage range extends 200 mV below the negative supply, making the device suited for use in single-supply applications with ground sensing. The LMP2231 is offered in 5-pin SOT23 and 8-pin SOIC packages.
The LMP2232 dual micropower, precision amplifier provides 1.6V to 5.5V operating supply voltage range and quiescent power consumption of 13 uW per channel. The device has a maximum offset voltage of 150 uV, along with a maximum offset voltage drift of 0.5 uV/C and low bias current of +/- 20 fA. The LMP2232 is offered in 8-pin SOIC or 8-pin MSOP packages.
The LMP2234 quad micropower, precision amplifier provides 1.6V to 5.5V operating voltage range and quiescent power consumption of 12 uW per channel. The device has a maximum offset voltage of 150 uV, along with a maximum offset voltage drift of 0.75 uV/C and low bias current of +/- 20 fA. The LMP2234 is offered in 14-pin SOIC or 14-pin TSSOP packages. All three products are available now.
