As part of its BRILASI research project, Osram Opto Semiconductors has improved the performance parameters of laser bars, or laser chips - their efficiency, output power, life time and beam quality - and matched them perfectly to each other. The results include laser chips with a wavelength of 910 to 980nm that achieve an optical output of 120W under real industrial conditions and a typical efficiency of 70%. With the new laser bars, system output can be increased while product life time remains the same. Additionally, systems can also be made smaller and more reliable without a decrease in output.
