ST Microelectronics has introduced 1MHz two-wire serial EEPROMs in 256Kbit, 512Kbit and 1Mbit densities. The new serial EEPROM is compatible with I2C Fast-Mode-Plus that allows fast data transaction. The M24M01-HR operates at 1MHz and completes a 1Mbit data transaction in one second; the 256Kbit M24256-BHR in a quarter of a second; and the 512Kbit M24512-HR in half a second. The memory supports multiple access modes, including byte-write mode, 64, 128 and 256 byte page-write modes, random and sequential read modes and automatic address incrementing. These modes help engineers to optimise system performance and power consumption; and provide a write-control input. The three chip-enabled pins allow up to eight devices on a single bus. The memory chip also aids design-in for low-voltage or standard-voltage systems, and the three densities are available in variants operating from 1.8V to 5.5V or 2.5V to 5.5V. There are three miniature surface-mount package styles available including TSSOP8 and a 3.8mm width SO-8. Low package heights of 1.2mm and 1.75mm allow use in consumer products such as digital TVs. All packages use ECOPACK technology, which meets international green packaging codes including the EU Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) requirements. The devices also deliver robust performance in the field, with specified durability of 1 million write cycles and more than 40 years data retention. The 256Kbit, 512Kbit and 1Mbit samples are available in SO-8 packages. TSSOP packaging samples are available for 256Kbit and 512Kbit densities.
