Direct Insight has announced SwiftModule, a production-ready platform optimised for Windows Embedded CE 6.0. This ultra-low-power module is suitable for a wide range of embedded system based products, including GPS location systems, industrial controllers, instruments, medical systems and handheld devices. A wide range of interfaces are implemented on the module that include Ethernet, USB, LCD controller, touch, audio, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, RS232 and SD Card. The other interfaces that are implemented alongside connectors on a standard or custom baseboard include LVDS, GPRS, GPS module, A/D, CAN and Li-ion battery. This module is powered by a Marvell PXA320 at 806MHz, with 256Mbyte of DDR SDRAM, and 1Gbyte of NAND Flash. ARM-based SwiftModule achieves a power consumption of under 1W suitable for small-form-factor, battery powered, and fanless applications. SwiftModule provides NRE savings, by removing the need both for expensive high-frequency multilayer hardware design, and time consuming porting of the Operating System (OS).
SwiftModule embodies a solution-oriented approach, by encompassing all required communications and interfaces in the production quality platform. SwiftModule features 60x40mm size; rapid boot capability using BinFS file system implementation and graphical branding with the help of user-defined splash-screen. On-module Ethernet, Wi-Fi, audio and touch reduce the baseboard requirement for many designs. A Flash File System supporting removable storage makes the unused area of the NAND device, available for data storage, through USB stick, SD and CF cards. A touch screen is directly connected to the PXA320's on-chip display controller with LVDS support for remote display.
